SONY EVI-D100

The Sony EVI-D100 (NTSC) and EVI-D100P (PAL) video cameras are a great choice for any application that requires a high-quality color video camera with the flexibility of remote pan/tilt/zoom operation, all in a compact easy to use package. Zoom, focus, pan, tilt, exposure, etc. can be controlled using the included infrared remote control or by computer through an RS-232C serial connection. The software for control of the EVI-D100 is available for free and can be download from Sony's web site.These high quality Sony CCD cameras combine a high-speed, quiet pan/tilt with a wide angle of view and 40x zoom. Innovative features such as auto focus and automatic exposure control are fast and stable for hands free operation when the camera changes pan/tilt positions. The EVI-D100 is ideal for applications such as video conferencing, distance learning, telemedicine, conference and training rooms, courtrooms, houses of worship and internet communications.

What are the main differences between the EVI-D100 and EVI-D70?
1. The EVI-D100 has a wider angle of view.
2. The EVI-D70 provides better optical zoom. The EVI-D70 has 18x optical zoom while the EVI-D100 has only 10x optical zoom. The EVI-D100 does have a better DIGITAL zoom but this feature is not very practical/useful as digital zoom is basically just a blow up of the pixel and so you lose 1/2 the resolution when you digitally magnify the pixel 2x. So most users do not even use digital zoom on these cameras.
3. The EVI-D70 has reverse mounting capability. The EVI-D70 has a built in digital image flip switch that allows you to invert the image upside down. This means you can mount the camera either upside up (like on a desktop) or upside down (like on a ceiling) and be able to flip the image as needed so it appears normal either way.
4. The EVI-D70 has a better low light functionality. It has a color filter that automatically is removed in low light applications resulting in a clearer (less grainy picture). The EVI-D100 does not have this feature.
